Biral SWS-250 Visibility and Present Weather Sensor

DETAILS

The SWS-250 Visibility and Present Weather Sensor from Biral is a compact, cost-effective solution for solar resource assessment campaigns, measuring visibility and various precipitation types with exceptional accuracy. The SWS-250 utilizes forward scatter to measure visibility (MOR, EXCO and TEXCO) and a backscatter receiver for extended present and past weather measurements. This advanced technology significantly improves present weather reporting accuracy and confidently identifies a wide range of precipitation types, including fog, haze, drizzle, snow, hail and other non-frozen precipitation, as specified by WMO table 4680.

Communication with the SWS-250 Sensor is over a serial data link that is user-configurable for RS232, RS422 or RS485 signal levels. ASCII encoded data is used and the sensor can operate in either a polled or broadcast mode. NRG-provided solutions are available to ensure compatability with NRG's suite of data loggers, including the LOGR | Solar Data Logger, LOGR-S Data Logger, and SymphoniePRO Data Logger.

The SWS-250 integrates seamlessly with the NRG Flare SRA System, providing reliable measurements as required. It is fully compatible with all NRG data loggers, ensuring optimal flexibility for your solar resource assessment needs.

Benefits

  • Outputs available as WMO Table 4680 and METAR present and past weather codes
  • Automatic window contamination monitoring ensures accuracy and minimizes maintenance needs
  • Wide range of visibility reporting formats including Meteorological Optical Range (MOR) and atmospheric extinction coefficient (EXCO)
  • 10m to 99.99km measurement range
  • Selectable measurement resolution of 1m or 10m (default)
  • Calibration traceable to a national weather service transmissometer in accordance with ICAO standards
  • Compatibility with NRG’s Flare SRA System and data logger suite for plug-and-play operation in pre-construction campaigns
